DECLARATION OF EMERGENCY CONDITIONS
WHEREAS, the National Weather Service is forecasting that the state of Alabama may be severely affected by a series of severe weather events including straight-line winds, lightning, hail and tornadoes, beginning in the evening hours of Friday, March 14, 2025, and continuing through the early morning hours of Sunday, March 16, 2025;
WHEREAS, Governor Kay Ivey has issued an Executive Order declaring a state of emergency in the State of Alabama; and
WHEREAS, this severe weather could cause significant damage to public and private property and poses a danger to the health and safety of the residents of the Town of Berlin, Alabama;
WHEREAS, ALA CODE§31-9-10 (1975) provides the power and authority for a political subdivision such as the Town of Berlin, Alabama to declare a state of local emergency and to waive the procedures and formalities otherwise required of a political subdivision by law, including but not limited to:
- Performance of public work and taking whatever prudent action is necessary to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the community;
- Entering into contracts;
- Incurring obligations;
- Employment of temporary workers;
- Utilization of volunteer workers;
- Rental equipment;
- Acquisition and distribution, with or without compensation, of supplies, materials, and facilities;
- Appropriation of expenditure of public funds.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY PROCLAIMED this 14th day of March, 2025, that the this severe weather could cause significant damage to public and private property and poses a danger to the health and safety of the residents of the Town of Berlin, Alabama, and that a State of Local Emergency has been declared, effective 2p.m., on this date for the Town of Berlin, Alabama.
