Regular Meeting
The Town Council of the Town of Berlin met in regular session on this date and time following publication and posting pursuant to Alabama law.
In compliance with State Bid Law Section 41-4-132, Code of Alabama, bids for B2023-001 BID SPECS FOR BUSH HOGGING AND MOWING OF TOWN PROPERTY were opened at 6:45 PM by Mayor Patrick Bates at the Berlin Town Hall.
- Meeting called to order by Mayor Patrick Bates on Monday, March 20, 2023, at 7:00 P.M. at the Berlin Town Hall.
- Invocation – Councilman Donald Gunter.
- Pledge of Allegiance – Mayor Patrick Bates.
- Roll call by Town Clerk Keirstyn Montgomery. All members present.
- Mayor Patrick Bates asked for public comments. There were none.
- Sherriff Matt Gentry discussed having a town deputy for the Town of Berlin.
- Approval of minutes from February 20, 2022, Regular Meeting. Motion to approve made by Councilman James Sanford. Second made by Councilman Keith Hardman. Approved 6-0.
- Mayor Patrick Bates informed Council that with the help of Commissioner Kelly Duke, the Town of Berlin has been awarded a $75,000 grant from NARCOG for a community safe room. Motion to approve AGREEMENT FOR GRANT FUNDS FOR CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF A COMMUNITY SAFE ROOM made by Councilman James Sanford. Second made by Councilman Tony Duke. Approved 6-0.
- Councilman James Sanford made motion to reject FEMA grant for a Community Safe Room. Second by Keith Hardman. Approved 6-0.
- Council discussed B2023-001 BID SPECS FOR BUSH HOGGING AND MOWING OF TOWN PROPERTY.
Bid #1 received from Buddy Amos for the amount of $400/per cut for bush hogging and $175/per cut for mowing town property.
Bid #2 received from Steve Clark for the amount of $1,000/per cut and $100/per cut for mowing town property.
- Councilman James Sanford made motion to recess for 10 minutes at 7:17 P.M. Second made by Tony Duke. Approved 6-0.
- Meeting called back to order by Mayor Patrick Bates at 7:24 PM.
- Councilman Tony Duke made motion to reject all bids received for B2023-001 BID SPECS FOR BUSH HOGGING AND MOWING OF TOWN PROPERTY. Second made by Councilman Don Bates. Approved 6-0.
- Councilman Keith Hardman made motion to approve ORDINANCE # 2023-001 AN ORDINANCE ANNEXING TERRITORY INTO THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE TOWN OF BERLIN, ALABAMA PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF 11-42-21, CODE OF ALABAMA 1975. Second made by Councilman Donald Gunter. Mayor Patrick Bates asked for roll-call vote. Councilman Patrick Bates-Abstain, Councilman Donald Gunter-Yes, Councilman James Sanford-Yes, Councilman Tony Duke-Yes, Councilman Don Bates-Abstain, Councilman Keith Hardman-Yes. ORDINANCE # 2023-001 AN ORDINANCE ANNEXING TERRITORY INTO THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE TOWN OF BERLIN, ALABAMA PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF 11-42-21, CODE OF ALABAMA 1975. Approved 4-0.
- Council discussed bid specs for B2023-002 TOPSOIL. Motion to receive bids made by Councilman James Sanford. Second made by Councilman Donald Gunter. Approved 6-0.
