Regular Meeting

  • Meeting called to order by Mayor Patrick Bates on Monday, October 18, 2021, at 7:00 P.M. at the Berlin Town Hall.
  • Invocation – Councilman Donald Gunter.
  • Pledge of Allegiance – Mayor Patrick Bates.
  • Roll call by Town Clerk Keirstyn Montgomery. All members present.
  • Mayor Patrick Bates asked for public comments. There where none.
  • Mayor Patrick Bates asked for nomination for Mayor Pro Tempore. Councilman Don Bates made motion to appoint Councilman Donald Gunter as Mayor Pro Tempore, second by Councilman James Sanford. Roll Call Vote: Mayor Patrick Bates-Yes, Donald Gunter-Abstain, Don Bates-Yes, James Sanford-Yes, Keith Hardman-Yes. Approved 4-0.
  • Mayor Patrick Bates requested nominations for Council Place # 3.
  • Councilman Keith Hardman made motion for Johnny Cordar to fill Council Place # 3. No second offered. Motion fell.
  • Councilman Don Bates made motion for Tony Duke to fill Council Place # 3. Second by Councilman Donald Gunter. Roll-Call Vote: Mayor Patrick Bates-Yes, Donald Gunter-Yes, Don Bates-Yes, James Sanford-Yes, Keith Hardman-No. Approved 4-1.
  • Approval of minutes from September 20, 2021, Regular Meeting. Motion to approve by Councilman James Sanford, second made by Councilman Don Bates. Approved 5-0.
  • Approval of October 2021 invoices. Motion to approve by Councilman Donald Gunter, second made by Councilman Don Bates. Approved 5-0.
  • Councilman Keith Hardman made motion to allocate $476 from the towns Farmers Market account to be dedicated to North Alabama Agriplex Power of Produce Program (POP). Second made by Councilman Don Bates. Approved 5-0.
  • Mayor Patrick Bates discussed bush hogging of town property, tabled until next Regular Meeting.
  • Mayor Patrick Bates presented Annexation Petition of Steve Clark. Tabled until next Regular Meeting.
  • Mayor Patrick Bates gave road update.
  • Councilman Donald Gunter made motion to have Cullman County Road Department conduct blading and side arming of County Road 1612 as requested by the Transportation Department for the Cullman County Board of Education. Second made by Councilman James Sanford. Approved 5-0.
  • Councilman Don Bates made motion to turn County Road 1612 into counterclockwise, one-way around loop. Second by Councilman Donald Gunter. Approved 5-0.
  • In Other Business, Berlin Fire Department Social Media Coordinator Shelby Teichmiller discussed Pancake Breakfast with Santa on December 4, 2021, in support of local families in need. Berlin Fire Department will be selling raffle tickets for a 7ft Teddy bear to be drawn at event.
  • Motion to adjourn by Councilman Donald Gunter, second made by Councilman Don Bates. Approved 5-0.
  • Adjourned at 7:42 PM.
  • The next meeting of the Berlin Town Council will be November 15, 2021, at the Berlin Town Hall at 7:00 PM.
